Mid Century Modernism

People often Laugh at my hobby, or ask why I have all this crazy "ugly" furniture. Well do some research and realize that it is far more then just furniture. It was a life movement. A stage in the late 40s into the early 60s that was pushing good design to make Americans and many other Nations feel better about there lives. Using only the best materials to make them last a lifetime or longer, with perfected design based on the smallest thing from Human posture to the amount of money that was spent on one particular item. As I write this, im currently sitting in a leather lounger chair from 1958 that is still useable daily. its in great shape, and only cause the Eames couple designed it.

After the war America was in need of real materials and better sources to make life seem easier. This was the whole futuristic movement that was also later moved by NASA and there first space lunch to finish off the "ATOMIC ERA". Without this movement there would have been alot of things that are around today that may have never been invented.

Many of the designers in this time/era invented more then just one thing. They made a lounge chair one day and the next designed an Airport (Eero Saarinen). Clearly didn't happen over night, but the amount of other things that many designers took part in make something like this Eames 670/671 Lounge chair worth so much money, and it will continue having a sentimental value for all people interested in design.

Look in to mid century modernism. Dont hate the space age. Oh...and stay away from the 70s, its all junk!
